**Yellow Warning Issued as Inland Temperatures Reach 40°C**
Cyprus is bracing for extreme heat as the Meteorological Office has issued a yellow warning for inland areas, where temperatures are expected to soar to 40°C on Tuesday. The warning will be in effect from 2 PM to 4 PM, coinciding with the peak of the heat.
The current weather patterns are influenced by seasonal low pressure affecting the region. While the day is anticipated to start mainly fine, conditions will shift as increased cloud cover develops around midday and into the afternoon. This change may bring isolated rain, particularly over the mountainous regions.
Winds are expected to be light and variable at first, measuring around 3 Beaufort, before gradually shifting to a southwesterly to northwesterly direction, increasing to light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort. Along the southern and southwestern coasts, local winds may strengthen to 4 to 5 Beaufort during the afternoon hours.
The sea conditions will be slight to locally moderate, providing a somewhat calmer environment for those who may seek relief from the heat in the water.
As temperatures rise, the forecast indicates that the inland areas will reach around 40°C, while coastal temperatures will vary: 31°C along the western and southwestern coasts, 35°C on the remaining coastal areas, and 30°C in the higher mountainous regions.
As the sun sets, Tuesday night is expected to remain mainly clear, though there may be periods of increased low cloud, particularly in western areas. Winds will shift to a mainly northwesterly to northeasterly direction, remaining light at up to 3 Beaufort, and the sea will calm to slight conditions. Overnight temperatures will drop to around 23°C inland, 24°C along the coasts, and 20°C in the mountains.
Looking ahead to the rest of the week, Wednesday and Thursday are projected to bring increased cloud cover in the afternoons, with a likelihood of isolated rain over the mountains. Friday is expected to be more unsettled, with forecasts indicating the possibility of isolated rain and thunderstorms, particularly in mountainous areas and parts of the interior.
Temperature trends suggest that there will be little change through Thursday, with a slight decrease expected on Friday, bringing levels closer to the seasonal average.
