**Zelenskiy: It is ‘absurd’ that production of missile defence arms cannot meet demand**
In a recent address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed his frustration over the ongoing shortage of arms necessary for defending Ukraine against Russian ballistic missile attacks. During his nightly video address on Monday, he characterized the current situation as “absurd,” emphasizing that the production capabilities for missile defense systems have not been scaled up to meet the urgent needs of his country.
Zelenskiy pointed out that despite the advancements in military technology, the production of defense systems has not kept pace with the demands of modern warfare. He stated, “It is simply absurd that, in the modern world, production has still not been scaled up to the level actually required to protect people from ballistic terror.” His remarks reflect a growing concern within Ukraine regarding its ability to adequately defend its territory and citizens amidst ongoing hostilities.
The Ukrainian leader highlighted that Ukraine possesses the necessary expertise and knowledge to manufacture its own missile defense systems. He indicated that if Ukraine were to receive licenses from the United States to produce the Patriot missile defense systems, the country could not only fulfill its own defense needs but also provide assistance to allied nations that require similar capabilities.
Zelenskiy’s comments come at a time when Ukraine continues to face significant threats from Russian missile strikes, which have targeted various civilian and military infrastructure across the country. The urgency of his message underscores the critical situation Ukraine finds itself in as it seeks to bolster its defenses against ongoing aggression.
The call for increased production of missile defense systems is part of a broader dialogue within Ukraine regarding military preparedness and the need for enhanced support from international partners. As the conflict with Russia persists, the demand for effective defense mechanisms has never been more pressing, prompting leaders like Zelenskiy to advocate for immediate action to address these shortages.
The situation remains dynamic, and the Ukrainian government continues to explore avenues for expanding its military capabilities. Zelenskiy’s appeal for greater production and support from allies reflects both the challenges faced by Ukraine and the determination of its leadership to secure the safety of its population.
