Police said the incident happened at around 4:30 am on Wednesday, when officers responded to reports of a brawl outside a nightclub on Louka Louka street. A dispute had broken out between two Israeli men and a Cypriot man, and when two Cypriot security guards from a nearby nightclub rushed over, one of the Israelis, 21, who appeared to be in a frenzied state, allegedly pulled out a knife and injured three people: the two guards and the Cypriot man he and his friend had earlier argued with. On arrival, police found four injured people, who were taken to Famagusta General Hospital in Paralimni. One of the security guards, 22, was stabbed in the abdomen and underwent surgery, with his condition described as serious. The other guard, 25, and the 41-year-old Cypriot man sustained minor knife wounds and were kept in hospital for treatment. The 21-year-old suspect’s 22-year-old friend, who was hit on the head, was also kept in hospital for treatment. The 21-year-old was found at the scene. When officers approached him, he insulted them, resulting in his arrest for the offences of public insult, causing alarm and disturbing the peace, committed in the presence of police. A knife was found at the scene and seized as evidence, while CCTV footage of the area is being examined. Police will take statements from those involved once their condition allows, in order to establish the cause of the brawl.
