**26 Arrested for Various Offences in Bases Area**
The Bases police have reported a significant enforcement operation over the past week, resulting in the arrest of 26 individuals for various offences. Among these arrests, three occurred on August 16 during a routine vehicle stop that led to the discovery of drugs and immigration violations.
During the vehicle search, officers found "drug-related paraphernalia," and the driver tested positive for crystal meth. The two passengers in the vehicle were identified as illegal immigrants and were taken into custody immediately.
In a separate incident, a woman was remanded in custody following her arrest for possession of drugs with the intent to supply. This highlights the ongoing issue of drug-related crimes within the Bases area, prompting police to intensify their efforts in both enforcement and prevention.
According to the statistics provided by the Bases police, the week also saw the issuance of 30 fixed penalty notices and 47 written cautions. Officers conducted 30 breathalyser tests and three drug tests as part of their commitment to maintaining safety and order in the community.
In addition to these law enforcement activities, the Bases police’s marine unit played a crucial role in ensuring safety along the coast. They conducted 25 boat patrols, checking 46 vessels and 158 individuals. The marine unit was also involved in responding to an emergency situation at Lady’s Mile beach on August 15, where two individuals were in distress in the water.
Temporary Superintendent Melina Papagregoriou addressed the tragic incident at Lady’s Mile Beach, where, despite the marine unit’s efforts to provide emergency aid, one of the individuals unfortunately passed away. She expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and emphasized the importance of exercising caution at sea, especially during the busy summer season.
“Our focus remains on prevention as well as enforcement,” Papagregoriou stated. “We want people to enjoy the summer period and our beaches safely, but we will continue to take firm action where offences are identified.”
The Bases police's proactive approach reflects their commitment to community safety and their determination to address various offences, including drug-related crimes and immigration violations. As the summer continues, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and responsible, particularly in recreational areas such as beaches and waterways.
