Algiers, Algeria – In a significant diplomatic shift, Algeria announced on Thursday that it has severed diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This decision comes after the Algerian government accused the UAE of engaging in a series of “provocative or hostile” actions, despite multiple warnings from Algiers.
The Algerian foreign ministry stated that the UAE's actions had escalated to a level deemed unacceptable and intolerable, leading the country to conclude that it had “exhausted all means of preserving bilateral relations.” In a formal move, the UAE ambassador was summoned to the Algerian foreign ministry, where he was informed of the decision and given 48 hours to comply with the severance of diplomatic ties.

Earlier this year, Algeria initiated the process of canceling an air services agreement with the UAE, originally signed in May 2013, signaling a further deterioration in bilateral relations.
