**Alphamega to Celebrate Cypriot Tradition at Second Authentically Cypriot Festival**
Alphamega Hypermarkets is set to host the second Authentically Cypriot Festival, a vibrant celebration of Cyprus’ rich cultural heritage. The event will take place on Sunday, September 27, from 4 PM to 9 PM at the outdoor area of Alphamega Engomi. Open to the public, the festival aims to foster connections among different generations through the exploration of traditional flavors, arts, customs, music, and dance.
The festival will prominently feature Cypriot culinary traditions, inviting attendees to indulge in a variety of beloved local products and traditional dishes. Visitors can expect to enjoy aromatic Cypriot coffee, rose cordial with milk, warm palouze (a grape jelly dessert), trachana soup, and halloumi, all of which evoke nostalgic childhood memories. The culinary offerings will also include souvla and slow-roasted kleftiko (lamb), encouraging families and friends to gather around the table in a communal dining experience reminiscent of past traditions.
Chef Christina Christofi, the Brand Ambassador for Alphamega Hypermarkets, will add her creative flair to the culinary experience. She plans to prepare traditional tomato pourgouri (bulgur wheat) and will engage both children and adults in a hands-on activity to make sklinitzia, a cherished handmade village pasta.
In addition to the culinary delights, the festival will offer a range of traditional games such as tug-of-war, egg-and-spoon races, and sack races, making it a fun-filled day for families. Creative activities and workshops will also be available, showcasing unique aspects of Cypriot craftsmanship and folk art. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in mosaic-making, pottery, and weaving, allowing them to explore traditional techniques that have been preserved over generations.
A special focus will be placed on artisans who continue to practice these traditional crafts. Notable figures like Mr. Hambis, who plays the pithkiavli (a traditional Cypriot flute), and Mr. Antrikkos, who creates vourkes (goatskin bags used by shepherds), will share their expertise and insights with festival-goers, highlighting the importance of preserving Cyprus’ folk craftsmanship.
Music will play a significant role in the festival, with performances by renowned artists Michalis Tterlikkas and Angelos Avgousti. Their performances will feature songs and melodies that are integral to Cypriot folk tradition, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The Authentically Cypriot Festival is free to attend, reflecting Alphamega Hypermarkets' commitment to celebrating and preserving the island's cultural heritage. The event aims to create a welcoming space for families and communities to come together, bridging the gap between past and present.
As the festival unfolds, it will serve as a reminder of the importance of tradition, filled with scents, flavors, and stories passed down through generations. It emphasizes the communal spirit of hospitality and the creation of new memories rooted in the shared experiences that connect people to their homeland.
Alphamega Hypermarkets invites everyone to join in this celebration of Cypriot tradition, where the past is honored, and the future is embraced. The festival promises to be a memorable occasion, showcasing the vibrant culture that defines Cyprus.
