At the same time, the situation remains difficult in Phocis, where another wildfire continues to threaten settlements and villages. Satellite data from METEO at the National Observatory of Athens shows the scale of the destruction is vast, with the burned areas in Attica and Boeotia estimated at roughly 66,600 stremma. Meanwhile, authorities have issued two 112 emergency evacuation alerts for a new fire currently spreading across Cephalonia. Argostoli Mayor Theofilos Michalatos told ERTNews that a major fire is underway, has entered the village of Kremmidi, and is on the verge of entering the village of Markopoulo. He said it is a large front, the area has not burned for many years, and strong winds are blowing. Firefighters fought through the night at Porto Germeno, where the largest front remains active. The fire there has grown massively, burning forest lands and causing severe damage to homes and property. The fire has split into two highly dangerous fronts.
