**Barn Owl Shines as a Wildlife Rescue Success Story**
A remarkable wildlife rescue story unfolded recently in Cyprus, as a female barn owl, released from a wildlife care centre last year, was found thriving with four newly hatched chicks. Upon checking the ring on the female owl, researchers traced the identification code back to the Taşkent Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre, located in the Pentadaktylos mountains. The owl had been admitted to the centre in December 2024 after sustaining severe injuries. After receiving necessary care and rehabilitation, she was successfully released back into the wild in March 2025.
BirdLife Cyprus reported that the female owl was found to be in “excellent condition,” weighing in at 385 grams. Her mate was also equipped with a ring, indicating that both birds were part of ongoing monitoring efforts. The successful nesting of the pair, evidenced by the four chicks, serves as a testament to the effectiveness of wildlife rescue and rehabilitation initiatives.
