**Bus Fare Hike to Take Effect in August Across Nicosia and Larnaca**
Bus fares for Cyprus Public Transport, which services the urban areas of Nicosia and Larnaca, are scheduled to increase on August 3, 2023, as announced by the company on Monday. This adjustment marks the latest in a series of fare hikes that have occurred over the past year.
The price for a standard daytime urban ticket will rise from €2.40 to €2.70. For passengers traveling at night, the cost of a one-way ticket, applicable from 9 PM onwards, will increase from €4.20 to €4.70.
For those utilizing Motion cards, which offer discounted fares, daytime routes will see an increase from €1.80 to €2.00. Nighttime fares for Motion card holders will rise from €2.60 to €3.50.
This upcoming fare adjustment follows a previous increase in September 2022, when daytime ticket prices rose from €2.00 to €2.40. Nighttime fares were last adjusted on March 1, 2023, when they increased from €4.00 to €4.20, following a previous hike from €3.50 in September 2022.
In addition to urban ticket prices, fares for rural routes will also see an increase, moving from 60 cents to 70 cents. Discounts for weekly, monthly, and annual passes, as well as various other fare options, will also reflect the new pricing structure. However, it is worth noting that yearly tickets for school students will remain unchanged at €30.
It is important to highlight that no fare changes have been announced for the bus systems operating in Paphos, Limassol, Ayia Napa, and Protaras, which continue to charge a standard daytime fare of €2.00.
As the fare adjustments approach, commuters in Nicosia and Larnaca are encouraged to plan their travel budgets accordingly. The changes are part of ongoing efforts to manage operational costs and maintain services within the public transport system.
