Speaking first to TRT News, the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Lefkoşa, Ali Murat Başçeri, said, “Unfortunately, there are casualties. Many people have been brought ashore; the vast majority of the 259 passengers have been rescued.” Prime Minister Ünal Üstel also announced that rescue efforts were being carried out flawlessly with the mobilization of Civil Defense, Coast Guard, and all other resources, and said, “We are very saddened by the loss of life, we are very saddened by the injured, we are on the ground with all our resources.
