The incident happened shortly after 6pm at the CTO beach in Larnaca, as the woman and her two daughters were swimming. The girls’ father and the family’s third child, a boy, were on the shore at the time. Other swimmers saw the mother and the two girls struggling in the waves and helped bring them ashore. Ambulances were called to the scene. Despite efforts by rescuers to revive her, the 35-year-old woman died. Her daughters were taken to Makarios Hospital. The incident happened shortly after the lifeguard’s shift in the area had ended. Hundreds of people were at the beach at the time and witnesses said strong winds and rough seas were affecting the area.
