President Christodoulides then formally appointed Evanthia Tsolaki, Christos Senekis, Tina Pavlou, Clea Papaellina, Elias Myrianthous, Irene Poyiatzi and Panayiotis Palates to their new roles. Addressing them afterwards, he said they were, as of Thursday, becoming “fellow travellers in the extremely important mission” entrusted to the government by the Cypriot people. He said they would work tirelessly, methodically and effectively to implement a governing programme carrying the ideological stamp of social liberalism. Christodoulides also thanked outgoing members Alexis Vafeades, Maria Panayiotou and Vasiliki Kassianidou for their dedication during their time in office. On Vafeades specifically, the President shared a remark he said he often makes, describing him as someone who would stand in front of him to “take a bullet” for him. The new appointments are: Evi Tsolaki as Minister of Transport, Communications and Works; Christos Senekis as Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development; Tina Pavlou as Deputy Minister of Social Welfare; Clea Papaellina as Deputy Minister of Culture; Irene Poyiatzi as Commissioner for Citizens’ Rights; Elias Myrianthous as Commissioner for the Environment and Animal Welfare; and Panayiotis Palates as Director of the Office of the President. Evi Tsolaki, new Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Christos Senekis, new Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tina Pavlou, new Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Clea Papaellina, new Deputy Minister of Culture Irene Poyiatzi, new Commissioner for Citizens’ Rights Elias Myrianthous, new Commissioner for the Environment and Animal Welfare Panayiotis Palates, new Director of the Office of the President Handover ceremonies will follow at the relevant ministries: at 10.15am at the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare, 11am at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, 11.45am at the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, and 12.30pm at the Deputy Ministry of Culture. As previously reported, Christodoulides decided on the changes to the Cabinet’s composition on Tuesday, exercising powers granted to him under the Constitution. The Council of Ministers, in its new composition, will meet at 1pm.
