The crash happened around 3:15pm at the junction of Agia Marina Street and Strovolou Avenue, as Kalligas was cycling along Agia Marina Street and reached the junction, under circumstances that are being investigated. The car involved was being driven by a 40-year-old woman travelling along Strovolou Avenue. Police attended the scene to carry out an examination, while an ambulance crew took Kalligas to Nicosia General Hospital, where a doctor on duty pronounced him dead. The Nicosia Traffic Department is investigating the circumstances of the collision.
