**Cyprus Businesses Among Highest in EU for Social Media Usage**
Cyprus has emerged as a leader in social media adoption among businesses within the European Union, with nearly 80 percent of enterprises integrating these platforms into their daily operations. According to recent data from Eurostat, Cyprus achieved an impressive adoption rate of 79.94 percent in 2025, placing it seventh among EU member states.
This high level of social media engagement reflects a significant trend across Europe, where the overall adoption rate among enterprises with ten or more employees rose to 63.6 percent in 2025, up from 61.1 percent in 2023. The increasing use of social media allows businesses to enhance their online presence, improve marketing strategies, and facilitate communication with partners, customers, and other organizations, thus fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.
The Eurostat report highlights that the prevalence of social media usage varies significantly by the size of the enterprise. Small enterprises reported a usage rate of 60.6 percent, while medium-sized firms saw this figure rise to 76.2 percent. Large enterprises led the way, with an impressive 89.1 percent of them utilizing social media platforms.
In the broader context of the EU, Malta topped the rankings with the highest percentage of enterprises using social media at 88.2 percent, followed closely by Finland at 87.6 percent and Denmark at 86.1 percent. Other countries demonstrating strong performance in social media adoption include the Netherlands at 83.76 percent, Sweden at 83.34 percent, and Belgium at 81.11 percent.
Conversely, some EU nations lagged in social media engagement. Bulgaria recorded the lowest adoption rate at 41.5 percent, followed by Croatia at 46.0 percent and Hungary at 47.3 percent. These disparities illustrate the varying degrees of digital modernization within the European business sector.
The findings underscore the ongoing transformation of the business landscape in Cyprus and across Europe, as companies increasingly prioritize their online connectivity and digital strategies to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving market. As businesses continue to embrace social media, it is expected that the trend will further evolve, influencing how enterprises interact with their customers and stakeholders in the future.
