**Cyprus Defence and Space Cluster Elects New Leadership**
On Tuesday, the Cyprus Defence and Space Industry Cluster (CyDSIC) convened its first electoral general assembly, resulting in the election of an eight-member board dedicated to enhancing the island’s defence, security, and space sectors. The assembly, which took place under the auspices of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Keve), is considered a pivotal moment in the evolution of Cyprus’ defence and space business ecosystem.
CyDSIC was initially formed within the Cyprus Research and Innovation Enterprises Association and has since expanded its activities to bolster the participation of Cypriot businesses in significant European programmes and initiatives. In a statement released on Wednesday, the cluster highlighted its contributions to enhancing Cyprus’ international standing in these strategic sectors.
The newly elected board comprises representatives from both the defence and space industries, reflecting the cluster's diverse interests. Loizos Christofi, from EBOS Technologies, has been appointed as president. Despina Panayiotou Theodosiou of Tototheo Global will serve as vice-president for financial affairs, while Tasos Kounoudes of SignalGenerix takes on the role of vice-president for policy, institutional affairs, and public relations. Haris Zacharatos from Cellock has been designated vice-president for industrial development and exports, and Constantinos Kassianides of Hellas Sat will oversee research and innovation as vice-president. Panayiotis Philimis from the Cyprus Research & Innovation Centre (CyRIC) has been appointed vice-president for European and international cooperation. Additionally, Pavlos Fokas of Multimarine Services will serve as secretary, and Diofantos Hadjimitsis of the Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence will represent research and academic organisations.
During the assembly, President Christofi expressed optimism regarding the board's ability to fulfill its responsibilities, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and collective efforts in advancing the cluster's objectives. He reiterated the commitment to further strengthen Cyprus’ international presence and partnerships within the defence, security, and space domains.
The assembly represents a significant step forward for CyDSIC, which has become increasingly active in recent years as local companies strive for greater engagement in European and international initiatives.
