**Cyprus’ EU Presidency Celebrates Contributions from Sponsors**
Nicosia, Cyprus – In a ceremony held on Monday, Deputy European Affairs Minister Marilena Raouna acknowledged the vital role of sponsors in supporting Cyprus’ recent EU presidency. The event highlighted the collaborative efforts that have shaped the presidency, which commenced two-and-a-half years ago and aimed to foster unity around a shared vision for the European Union.
Raouna emphasized the significance of this presidency, particularly for Cyprus, a small EU member state situated in a unique geopolitical context. She noted, “From the first moment, we were conscious of the unique opportunity presented … which holds particular importance for a member state such as Cyprus, with its unique characteristics, being one of the smallest EU members, a member state that is an integral part of the broader Middle East region, and of course the last member state under occupation.”
The Deputy Minister's remarks underscored the collaborative nature of the presidency, which involved not only government officials but also the broader civil society, including young people and educational institutions. This inclusive approach aimed to engage various segments of society in the presidency's activities and objectives.
Demetris Mavrommatis, Director of the presidency’s secretariat, also spoke at the event, highlighting the contributions of the civil service and the economy as a whole in ensuring the success of the presidency. He stated, “The organisations and businesses we are honouring today, as well as all the other sponsors that supported the presidency, did not limit themselves to providing goods or services, but contributed their know-how, reliability and trust in a national effort with a strong European dimension.”
During the ceremony, several key sponsors were recognized for their contributions. The two major sponsors, Cyta and Ayia Napa Marina, along with golden sponsors EKO Cyprus and Coca-Cola HBC Cyprus, received honorary plaques and diplomas in appreciation of their support.
Cyta, the telecommunications provider, played a crucial role by supplying network services, mobile devices, and electronic equipment necessary for the presidency's operations. Ayia Napa Marina contributed significantly by offering facilities for both indoor and outdoor events associated with the presidency.
EKO Cyprus supported the initiative by providing fuel and car cleaning services for the vehicles utilized throughout the presidency, ensuring that transportation needs were met efficiently. Additionally, Coca-Cola HBC Cyprus supplied bottled water and soft drinks for high-level meetings and various events, contributing to the hospitality and comfort of participants.
The recognition of these sponsors reflects the collaborative spirit that characterized Cyprus’ EU presidency, showcasing how partnerships between government and private entities can enhance national efforts on an international stage. As Cyprus continues to navigate its role within the EU, the lessons learned and relationships built during this presidency may serve as a foundation for future endeavors.
The event concluded with an expression of gratitude from Raouna, who reiterated the importance of unity and cooperation in achieving common goals within the European framework. The successful execution of the presidency not only highlights Cyprus' capabilities but also reinforces its commitment to contributing positively to the European Union and its member states.
