The move puts into practice the Education Ministry’s plan to place social workers in specific schools, where they will work alongside educational psychologists, offering support aimed at tackling violence and delinquency, and at strengthening children’s psychological resilience. The successful company for the tender to provide social worker services in primary schools and secondary schools has now been announced and will take up its duties from September 1, 2026, following the recent completion of the tender process. According to philenews’ information, the contract has been awarded to CODECA, and the pilot programme will begin, in its first phase, in five schools. These are Pano Polemidion-Karmiotissas Primary School (Limassol) and Kaimakli Primary School (both cycles, Nicosia), along with Linopetra Secondary School (Limassol), Faneromeni Secondary School (Larnaca) and Palouriotissa Secondary School (Nicosia). The pilot programme will also be evaluated as it is rolled out in schools, with the first official results expected this December, when the company holding the contract submits its quarterly progress report. Education Minister Athina Michaelidou first spoke about placing social workers in schools on a pilot basis back in January, saying the aim, beyond tackling school violence and delinquency, was to support the psychological resilience of students and teachers. “Everything we do supports our dual goal of a more effective, more inclusive school,” the minister said at the time.
