**Cyprus Startups Invited to Tackle Water Challenges with AI**
The Digital Cooperation Organisation (DCO) has announced an international challenge aimed at harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) to address pressing issues in the water sector. Innovators from Cyprus are encouraged to participate in the Future Makers AI Challenge for Critical Sustainability, which seeks practical solutions to water-related challenges faced by DCO member states.
As a member of the DCO, Cyprus is eligible for this initiative, which is being launched in collaboration with several prominent organizations, including Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, the Research, Development and Innovation Authority, and King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology. The challenge aims to identify and implement AI-enabled solutions that can enhance the efficiency and sustainability of water systems.
The DCO has outlined specific goals for the challenge, focusing on technologies that can mitigate water losses, optimize resource use, and reduce the environmental impact of the water sector. Participants are expected to develop solutions that improve the operational efficiency of water systems, reduce energy consumption, and promote the reuse and recycling of water resources. Additionally, the challenge seeks to enhance the resilience of the entire water value chain.
Future Makers is facilitated through NexaBridge, the DCO’s open innovation initiative, which aims to connect real-world challenges with innovators. This platform is designed to help promising solutions transition from development to market readiness. Teams selected for the challenge will have the opportunity to further refine and demonstrate their solutions, potentially testing them under controlled conditions in Saudi Arabia.
