**Delivery Driver Assaulted in Limassol**
A 23-year-old delivery driver was assaulted and robbed early Wednesday morning in Limassol, according to local police reports. The incident took place around 1:30 AM on Omonia Avenue, where the driver was riding his bicycle when he was approached by a group of three individuals.
The assailants reportedly demanded that the driver hand over the food he was delivering. When he refused, they attacked him, inflicting physical injuries that included beatings and a stab wound to the abdomen with a knife. Following the assault, the group stole €150 in cash from the driver before fleeing the scene.
The driver sought medical attention at the Limassol general hospital, where he was treated for abrasions on various parts of his body, swelling around his right eye, and a superficial stab wound to his left abdomen. Medical staff assessed his injuries, and he is expected to recover.
In the course of the investigation, police discovered that the delivery driver was residing illegally in the Republic of Cyprus, which led to his arrest. Authorities have not yet apprehended the assailants, and investigations are ongoing to gather more information about the incident and identify the suspects.
The assault has raised concerns about the safety of delivery personnel in the area, prompting discussions among local residents and business owners about measures to enhance security for workers in the gig economy.
As the investigation continues, police are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in identifying the perpetrators.
