**E-scooter Riders Reported in Paphos Traffic Crackdown**
Paphos, Cyprus – In a concerted effort to enhance road safety, local police conducted targeted traffic enforcement operations over the weekend, resulting in significant traffic violations across the region. The three-day initiative, which focused on various road users, led to a total of 270 traffic reports, including 86 operators of personal mobility devices (PMDs) such as electric scooters.
The crackdown was part of a broader campaign aimed at reducing road collisions and ensuring compliance with traffic laws. Authorities emphasized the importance of these operations in identifying both motorists and other road users who may be violating regulations.
Among the reported violations, police noted that one PMD operator tested positive during a roadside drug test, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding substance use among drivers. Additionally, officers issued 66 speeding tickets, as speeding continues to be a primary factor contributing to serious road accidents.
The enforcement operations also targeted drink-driving, with eight drivers reported for this offence. Police conducted two roadside drug tests during the weekend, further underscoring their commitment to maintaining road safety standards.
The Paphos police department has reiterated the necessity of such operations to safeguard all road users, including those using PMDs.
