In a comprehensive overnight operation, police across Cyprus arrested eight individuals for various offences, including assault and illegal residency, while also issuing a significant number of traffic fines. The operation, aimed at preventing serious crime and enhancing public safety, was part of a broader strategy to maintain order in urban areas.
According to a police statement released on Tuesday, the coordinated efforts involved organized patrols in key locations throughout the island. Officers stopped a total of 473 vehicles and conducted checks on 617 drivers and passengers. The police also inspected 44 premises, resulting in one establishment being reported for an offence.
Traffic enforcement was a major focus during the operation, leading to the issuance of 305 reports for various road traffic violations. Notably, 119 of these fines were related to speeding offences. In addition to speeding checks, police conducted 120 alcohol tests, with two drivers testing positive for alcohol consumption. Furthermore, four preliminary drug tests were administered, resulting in one positive outcome.
As part of the enforcement actions, six vehicles were impounded for various infractions. The police emphasized the importance of these operations in their ongoing commitment to public safety and crime prevention. They announced that similar operations will continue on a daily basis, featuring an increased police presence, targeted checks, and rapid intervention strategies.
