In a coordinated effort to enhance public safety and curb serious crime, police across Cyprus conducted targeted operations overnight, resulting in the arrest of eight individuals. The operations, which took place on Saturday, were part of a broader initiative aimed at maintaining public order and addressing various unlawful activities.
The arrests were made for a variety of offences, including illegal employment and operating as a private security guard without the necessary license. Additionally, several traffic-related violations were addressed during the operations, highlighting the police's commitment to enforcing laws that protect both citizens and visitors.
During the overnight crackdown, law enforcement officers stopped and inspected a total of 621 vehicles and checked 952 individuals. These inspections were part of a comprehensive strategy to identify and address unlawful activities across the island. In total, police conducted inspections at 58 different premises, which led to 14 reports of various offences.
Traffic enforcement was a significant focus of the operations, resulting in 392 reports for different traffic violations. Among the most frequently recorded offences were speeding violations, with 132 drivers cited for exceeding the legal speed limit. The police also reported 31 instances of driving under the influence of alcohol and two suspected cases involving drugs, identified through preliminary testing methods.
To ensure thorough enforcement, a total of 213 drivers were subjected to alcohol tests, while six drivers underwent drug testing. The results of these tests are crucial for maintaining road safety and deterring impaired driving.
In addition to the arrests and reports, police impounded 11 vehicles as part of their ongoing investigations into traffic offences. Fourteen cases related to suspected traffic violations are still under investigation, indicating that police efforts to address these issues will continue.
The police emphasized that the primary objective of these operations is to protect the public and ensure a safe environment for all. By targeting various forms of illegal activity, including traffic violations and unlicensed security operations, law enforcement aims to foster a sense of security within communities across Cyprus.
As the crackdown concludes, police are likely to continue monitoring and enforcing laws to deter future violations, reinforcing their commitment to public safety and order.
