**Title: Eight Arrested in Overnight Police Operations Across Cyprus**
In a series of coordinated overnight operations, police in Cyprus arrested eight individuals for various offences, according to a statement released on Saturday. The operations were part of a broader effort to enhance public safety and enforce the law across the island.
The arrests encompassed a range of offences, including assault and causing injury, breaking and entering, theft, unlawful possession of property, and illegal residence in the Republic of Cyprus. Additionally, several traffic-related violations were addressed, including cases of drink-driving.
During the operations, law enforcement officers conducted thorough checks on 586 vehicles, leading to the examination of a total of 863 individuals traveling in those vehicles. The police also inspected 46 premises, resulting in seven reports related to various infractions.
Traffic enforcement was a significant focus of the operations, with police issuing 236 reports for violations. Among these, 84 were specifically for speeding. In total, 22 vehicles were impounded as part of the traffic enforcement efforts.
The police conducted 267 breathalyser tests throughout the night, which led to 16 cases of drink-driving. Furthermore, one driver tested positive for drugs following six preliminary roadside drug tests, highlighting the ongoing issues of substance abuse in relation to driving.
