**Electricity Demand Expected to be Fully Covered on Friday in Cyprus**
Cyprus is set to meet its electricity demand fully on Friday, according to Haris Zavallis, the head of the Transmission System Operator. Zavallis provided this update in light of the current electricity production levels and the reintegration of a key power unit.
On Friday morning, the available conventional electricity production in Cyprus was reported at 1,188 megawatts (MW). This figure is projected to rise to 1,248 MW with the reintegration of a 60 MW unit from the Dhekelia power station, which had been temporarily taken offline due to an operational issue. The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) is currently investigating the problem that led to the unit's shutdown.
Zavallis reassured the public that even without the Dhekelia unit, the existing reserves within the electricity system are sufficient to cover the current demand. He emphasized that the system is well-equipped to handle the expected peaks in electricity usage throughout the day.
The midday peak demand, anticipated between 2 PM and 4 PM, is estimated to reach around 1,320 MW. In contrast, the evening peak, expected from 7 PM to 9:30 PM, is predicted to fluctuate around 1,065 MW. The Transmission System Operator's proactive measures and the availability of reserves are crucial in ensuring that the electricity supply remains stable during these peak times.
