A doctor on board provided immediate care as the aircraft returned to Thessaloniki.
In an effort to mitigate the situation, passengers utilized a metal box from the galley to help block the opening created by the shattered window.
During the investigation, NTSB officials recovered feathers and bird remains from various parts of the engine. However, they have not yet concluded that a bird strike was responsible for the fan blade's failure. Maintenance records revealed that the engine had been involved in four suspected bird strikes over the previous year, with remains found after two of those incidents. Despite these findings, the engine's fan blades underwent ultrasonic inspections in November 2025 and May 2026, with no damage detected at those times.
