**Ethnomusicologist Presents Traditional Cyprus Poetry Workshop**
A new cultural initiative is set to enrich the artistic landscape of Cyprus this September, as Anasa Cyprus organizes a workshop dedicated to the traditional art of tsiattista. Scheduled for Saturday, September 19, the event will take place at the Eleni Petropoulou Hall in Pera Chorio, Nicosia, and will be led by the award-winning ethnomusicologist Dr. Nicoleta Demetriou.
Tsiattista is a form of impromptu oral poetry that has deep roots in Cypriot culture. The workshop aims to immerse participants in this unique art form, which is characterized by poetic dueling and the crafting of 15-syllable verses. Dr. Demetriou will guide attendees through the history and significance of tsiattista, offering insights into its role in Cypriot tradition.
The workshop is designed to be accessible to everyone, regardless of their prior experience with poetry or writing. Organizers emphasize that a simple willingness to engage with the living tradition of tsiattista is all that is required. Participants will have the opportunity to listen to characteristic examples of the art form, explore its nuances, and even write their own tsiattista verses during the three-hour session.
