The investigation began after members of the Anti-Poaching Unit of the Mobile Immediate Action Unit found 17 wild birds trapped in nets inside a fenced field in the district on 8 September 2026. Police also found five trapping nets and a device used to produce imitation bird calls at the site. The 17 live wild birds were released back into their natural habitat. Subsequent investigations found that the 36-year-old was the person managing the site. The case was investigated by Kofinou Regional Police Station in cooperation with the Game and Fauna Service. After the investigation was completed on Saturday, officers from Kofinou Police Station issued the 36-year-old with an out-of-court payment notice for €13,500 under legislation governing the protection and management of wild birds and game.
