**Family Reports Ransom Demand for Missing Student in Cyprus**
Larnaca, Cyprus – Concerns are escalating for Sahruar Ahmed Emon, a 22-year-old student from Bangladesh, who has been missing since June 12, 2026. The situation took a troubling turn when Emon's father reported to local authorities that he had received a ransom demand following a message allegedly sent from his son's phone.
According to reports, Emon left his residence in Oroklini around 6:30 PM on June 12, informing his housemates that he was heading to a factory in Kofinou, where he was set to begin a new job. After his departure, police traced the last signal from his mobile device to the Kofinou area. However, initial searches conducted by law enforcement in that vicinity yielded no results regarding his whereabouts.
Investigators believe that Emon likely traveled to Kofinou by bus, as he does not possess a personal vehicle. In light of this, police are currently reviewing bus routes that service the area and are actively seeking CCTV footage that may provide further insights into his movements on the day he went missing.
On the evening of June 12, Emon reportedly sent a message to a friend, which included a specific location. However, there has been no communication from him since that time. The situation escalated when his father, who resides in Greece, received a message from Emon's phone requesting assistance. Shortly thereafter, unknown individuals contacted the father, demanding a ransom for his son's release.
In response to the alarming developments, local police have reached out to Greek authorities for assistance in locating Emon's father and facilitating communication. The police are urging anyone who may have information regarding Emon's disappearance to come forward. They can contact the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Larnaca or the Citizen’s Line at 1460.
The case has raised significant concerns within the community, prompting discussions about student safety and the measures in place to protect individuals living away from home. As investigations continue, the family and friends of Sahruar Ahmed Emon remain hopeful for his safe return.
Authorities are committed to pursuing all leads and are appealing to the public for any assistance that could aid in locating the missing student.
