**Fifteen Arrested in Nationwide Police Checks Across Cyprus**
In a coordinated effort to enhance public safety, the Cypriot police conducted extensive checks overnight, resulting in the arrest of fifteen individuals. The operation, which took place across the island, was aimed at addressing various offenses, including illegal residency, burglary, theft, and traffic violations.
According to police reports released on Monday, officers stopped a total of 538 vehicles and conducted checks on 713 drivers and passengers during the operation. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order and ensure compliance with local regulations.
The police issued a significant number of traffic citations during the checks, totaling 341. Notably, 125 of these citations were specifically for speeding violations, highlighting a continued concern over road safety and adherence to traffic laws.
In addition to traffic-related offenses, the police also focused on substance use among drivers. Officers conducted 110 alcohol tests, with three drivers testing positive for alcohol consumption. Furthermore, two drug tests were administered, resulting in one positive outcome. These measures reflect the police's commitment to reducing impaired driving and promoting safer roads.
As part of the operation, authorities seized 18 vehicles that were linked to ongoing investigations. Police also inspected 37 premises, leading to three additional complaints, although details regarding these complaints have not been disclosed.
