**Fire Breaks Out in Limassol’s Trachoni, British Bases Join Firefighting Effort**
A significant wildfire erupted in the Trachoni area of Limassol on Saturday afternoon, prompting a coordinated response from multiple firefighting forces, including civil defense teams, local volunteers, and personnel from the British bases.
The fire, which was reported to be consuming dry grass and wild vegetation, led to a mobilization of resources to combat the flames. Fire service spokesman Andreas Kettis provided updates via a post on X, detailing the response efforts. "We responded with firefighting forces from Limassol district. Civil Defence and organised volunteer groups have also been activated," Kettis stated.
In addition to local firefighting units, the response included support from the British bases, which contributed a fire engine to the effort. Furthermore, two excavators and a portable firefighting unit were provided by the Kourion municipality to assist in controlling the blaze.
Preliminary investigations by the fire service indicated that the wildfire may have been triggered when a lorry came into contact with overhead electricity cables belonging to the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC).
