**Fire Breaks Out Near Ayia Anna Residential Area**
A fire erupted on Wednesday afternoon in the vicinity of the Achnarka forest, located near the Ayia Anna residential area in Larnaca. The blaze was first detected at 2:58 PM by a fire lookout post operated by the forestry department.
According to Andreas Kettis, a spokesman for the fire service, the fire was primarily affecting an area characterized by dry grass, reeds, and wild vegetation in Kalo Chorio. Given the proximity of the fire to residential zones, immediate action was taken to control the situation.
Firefighting efforts were coordinated by both the forestry department and the fire service. Kettis stated that the operation included the deployment of three fire engines from local fire stations in Larnaca, alongside a hired bulldozer and a water tanker to assist in extinguishing the flames. Additionally, strong ground forces from the forestry department were mobilized to the scene to support the firefighting efforts.
Aerial resources were also utilized in the operation, with aircraft assisting ground crews in their attempts to bring the fire under control. The quick response from firefighting teams was crucial in addressing the situation, especially given the potential risk posed to nearby residential areas.
As of now, there have been no reports of injuries or significant damage to properties in the vicinity. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and are working diligently to ensure that the fire is fully extinguished.
Residents in the area are advised to stay informed through official channels as the firefighting operation progresses. The forestry department and fire service are committed to keeping the community safe and will provide updates as necessary.
