**Five Arrested in Overnight Police Operations Across Cyprus**
In a series of coordinated overnight operations across Cyprus, law enforcement officials arrested five individuals for various offenses, including drug possession, traffic violations, and illegal residency. The operations were part of a broader initiative aimed at enhancing public safety and enforcing compliance with laws.
During the operations, police stopped a total of 698 vehicles and conducted checks on 985 drivers and passengers. These measures were designed to ensure compliance with traffic regulations and to deter illegal activities.
The traffic enforcement efforts were particularly notable, resulting in 301 citations for various violations. Among these, 90 citations were issued specifically for speeding, highlighting a significant concern regarding road safety. Authorities emphasized the importance of adhering to speed limits to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of all road users.
In addition to traffic violations, police conducted 460 breathalyser tests to assess drivers' sobriety. Of these tests, 37 drivers tested positive for alcohol, indicating a potential risk to public safety. Furthermore, police performed 11 preliminary roadside drug tests, with five of these tests returning positive results, suggesting the presence of illegal substances.
As part of the enforcement operations, 26 vehicles were impounded, reflecting the seriousness of the violations observed. The police also extended their efforts to local establishments, inspecting 55 premises and resulting in nine reports for various infractions.
