**Third Suspect Arrested in Limassol Drug Case**
Limassol, Cyprus – Police have apprehended a third individual in connection with a significant drug case involving opioid narcotics in Limassol. The latest arrest occurred on Sunday when a 22-year-old man, who was wanted under an outstanding court warrant, was taken into custody.
This arrest follows the earlier detentions of two other suspects, aged 23 and 21, who were involved in the same case. The police reported that the 22-year-old was found to be residing illegally in the Republic of Cyprus during checks conducted after his arrest. Consequently, he was rearrested for the violation of unlawful stay.
The investigation began when the 23-year-old suspect was stopped by police while walking in Limassol on Friday afternoon. A search of his belongings revealed two nylon packages containing dried poppy pods, weighing a total of 418 grams. Following this initial discovery, officers conducted a search at the suspect's residence, where they found the 21-year-old and a cardboard box containing eight additional nylon packages of dried poppy pods, amounting to a total weight of 1.682 kilograms.
Both the 23-year-old and the 21-year-old were subsequently arrested and brought before the Limassol district court. The court has ordered their detention for a period of eight days as the investigation continues.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement in Cyprus to combat drug-related offenses and illegal narcotics trafficking. The police have not disclosed further details regarding the specific nature of the opioid narcotics involved or the potential implications for the suspects.
As the investigation progresses, authorities are expected to gather more information regarding the origins of the narcotics and any potential networks involved in their distribution. Police have urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking to assist in their ongoing efforts to maintain community safety.
