**Four Arrested as Police Intensify Crime Prevention Operations Across Cyprus**
In a concerted effort to enhance public safety and deter criminal activity, Cyprus police arrested four individuals during a series of islandwide operations conducted on Thursday night. The operations, which focused on urban areas, aimed to prevent serious crime and bolster the community's sense of security.
According to police reports, the coordinated patrols were part of an ongoing initiative to maintain public order. During the operations, law enforcement officials stopped a total of 615 vehicles and conducted checks on 785 drivers and passengers. The arrests made during this operation were for various offences, including illegal possession of drugs and driving under the influence of alcohol.
In addition to the arrests, police issued 359 citations for a range of road traffic offences. Notably, 79 of these citations were specifically for speeding violations. Traffic officers also conducted 82 breathalyser tests, resulting in four drivers testing positive for alcohol consumption. Furthermore, police performed two roadside drug tests, both of which returned negative results.
The operations extended beyond traffic enforcement, as police inspected 59 premises, leading to 12 reports for various offences. As part of their efforts to ensure compliance with the law, authorities impounded 10 vehicles during the night’s operations.
The police have indicated that these crime prevention operations will continue on a daily basis. They plan to maintain an increased presence on the streets, conduct targeted checks, and implement rapid operational responses to protect the public and uphold public order.
This initiative reflects the police's commitment to addressing crime proactively and fostering a safer environment for all residents and visitors in Cyprus.
