It also makes him Cyprus’s most decorated athlete in Mediterranean Games history, with seven medals in total: four gold, one silver and two bronze. Georgiou is the first Cypriot athlete to win four golds at the Mediterranean Games, and only the second, after Eleni Artymata, to take gold in three consecutive editions of the Games. He still has finals to come in the horizontal bar, parallel bars and rings. His Mediterranean Games medal collection began in 2018 in Tarragona, where he won gold in both the individual all-around and the horizontal bar. Four years later, at the 2022 Games in Oran, he added another horizontal bar gold and a bronze in the individual all-around. Georgiou’s win came as Cyprus matched it’s best-ever tally at the Mediterranean Games – six gold, five silver and three bronze. The record was set at the previous Games in Oran in 2022. Cyprus’s medals also included long jump gold for Filippa Fotopoulou and silver for Milan Trajkovic and Elena Kulichenko in athletics. Cyprus has already matched Oran’s gold-medal count, with competition still under way.
