In a social media post, the police said the restoration was carried out following a cooperation agreement between Harley-Davidson Cyprus and the Cyprus Police, with the company covering the full cost of the reconstruction work. The motorcycle is considered one of the most significant exhibits in the Police Museum, as it formed part of the escort fleet of Archbishop Makarios III, the first President of the Republic of Cyprus. According to historical records cited by the police, the motorcycle was donated to Makarios III, along with two other motorcycles and a Cadillac, by a Cypriot expatriate in the United States who was a shareholder in Cadillac. For years, the Harley-Davidson was used in official motorcades accompanying Makarios during public appearances and state ceremonies. Over time, however, the motorcycle was taken out of service and remained inactive until the recent restoration initiative. Following the completion of the restoration works, the motorcycle has been returned to a fully operational condition while retaining its historical and collectible value, the police said. The Cyprus Police expressed its gratitude to Harley-Davidson Cyprus for its contribution to preserving and highlighting an important artefact of the country’s historical and cultural heritage, stressing the importance of initiatives aimed at safeguarding historical items linked to Cyprus’ past.
