The Assistant Chief of Police for Crime Prevention and Combating and police officials also attended the meeting. According to a Ministry of Justice announcement, participants exchanged views, with company representatives raising their concerns and submitting proposals to improve rider protection and prevent similar incidents. Police also briefed the companies on prevention and awareness measures already in place, while participants discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation and direct information-sharing with the companies. Attacks on delivery riders have recurred in Cyprus over the past two years. In 2024, then-Justice Minister Marios Hartsiotis previously called a meeting with police and delivery company representatives over the issue, also attended by Labour Minister Giannis Panayiotou, saying it was a matter of serious concern for the ministry. Hartsiotis later told the House of Representatives that police were also examining a possible link between the attacks and organised crime, including reports of a group allegedly selling “protection” to members of their own community. The Ministry said the goal is to improve delivery riders’ safety through genuine cooperation, timely information-sharing and coordinated prevention measures.
