Both bodies were found during deep-water search operations carried out by Turkish Naval Forces vessels, and were determined to be women, Ustel said. “Police” have begun identification procedures. Sixteen people remain missing, and search operations are continuing around the clock, backed by the Republic of Turkey and all relevant units, according to Ustel. Ustel thanked the Republic of Turkey, the Turkish Naval Forces Command, its commander Admiral Ercument Tatlioglu, the Turkish Peace Forces Command and the “Security Forces Command” for their support, along with the commanders and crews of the two vessels and all military and civilian personnel involved in the search. He said search teams would continue their work with the same determination and sensitivity, and extended condolences to the families of those who died and to the wider public. The catamaran passenger ferry Filo Jet capsized on August 30 shortly after leaving Kyrenia port for Tasucu, near Mersin, with 259 passengers and eight crew on board. Of those, 241 people were rescued in the immediate aftermath.
