**Larnaca’s Zinonos Kitieos Street Transformed as Upgrade Nears Completion**
*Larnaca, Cyprus – August 12, 2026* – The bustling Zinonos Kitieos Street in Larnaca has undergone a significant transformation as pedestrian upgrades approach completion. The street, which runs parallel to the popular Finikoudes promenade, has recently reopened to vehicle traffic after enhancements aimed at improving the area for both pedestrians and local businesses.
The upgrades include the installation of new trees, flower beds, and white benches, contributing to a more inviting atmosphere for shoppers and visitors. Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras emphasized the importance of greenery in the project, stating that final touches will include additional flower beds and shade structures to enhance the area further.
Despite the reopening, some sections of Zinonos Kitieos Street will close again after August 24 to facilitate the final phase of the project. This phase will extend from the Atrium Zenon Hotel to the former Ottoman Bank building but will not disrupt commercial activities, as vehicle access will still be permitted up to Pallas Square.
The redevelopment has received a warm reception from the community, particularly after years of neglect in the commercial center. Business owners have expressed optimism about the changes, which they believe will attract more customers and rejuvenate the local economy. Mayor Vyras noted that interest in vacant shops has surged in areas where renovations have been completed, signaling a positive shift for local commerce.
While the overall response has been favorable, some concerns have been raised regarding the aesthetics of the project. Certain white floor tiles have shown staining, prompting the municipality to commit to regular cleaning. Additionally, the black poles supporting the shade structures have attracted criticism for their design. Nevertheless, the overall appearance of the area has markedly improved, according to local residents and business owners.
In conjunction with the upgrades to Zinonos Kitieos Street, the redevelopment of Filiou Zannetou Street, which intersects with Finikoudes, is also expected to be completed by the end of August. This project, along with the enhancements to Zinonos Kitieos, is part of a broader initiative to revitalize Larnaca’s commercial districts.
The city is also seeing progress on another major project involving the redevelopment of Alkis and Acropolis squares. This initiative is nearing completion, with only final additions to street furniture and planting remaining. Recently, Grigori Afxentiou Avenue and Kalogera Street reopened to traffic, further improving accessibility in the area.
The combined value of these projects exceeds €14 million and is co-funded by the THALEIA Programme. The contracts for the work were awarded to Miltiades Neophytou Civil Engineering Contractors & Developers Ltd., which has been tasked with delivering the upgrades efficiently and effectively.
As Larnaca continues to evolve, the upgrades to Zinonos Kitieos Street and surrounding areas are seen as a crucial step in enhancing the city’s appeal to both residents and tourists alike.
