**Limassol Bids Farewell to Rally Legend Dimis Mavropoulos**
Limassol, Cyprus – The city of Limassol came together on Thursday to honor the life of Dimis Mavropoulos, a prominent businessman and motorsport figure, who tragically lost his life during severe storms at sea. Mavropoulos passed away aboard his boat, the Perla Bianca, off Cape Greco on Saturday, while his daughter and partner were successfully rescued during the harrowing incident.
The funeral service was held at St. Kosmas the Aetolian Church in Limassol, where a large gathering of mourners, including family, friends, business associates, and public figures, paid their final respects. The turnout was so significant that the church was unable to accommodate all attendees, reflecting Mavropoulos's impact on the community.
Among the notable figures present were President Nikos Christodoulides, House Speaker Annita Demetriou, and former President Nicos Anastasiades, all of whom expressed their condolences and admiration for Mavropoulos's contributions to society.
In a heartfelt tribute, his daughter, Sylvia Mavropoulou, shared memories of her father, describing him as a vibrant individual who "was never going to live quietly." She recalled his distinctive appearance, boundless energy, and engaging personality, stating, “He was generous, he had an opinion on everything and he was incredibly entertaining.” Mavropoulou emphasized that her father had been the "whole world" to their family.
Friend and colleague Michalis Zavos also spoke at the funeral, highlighting Mavropoulos's legacy. He remarked that Mavropoulos would be remembered “not for the way he left, but for the way he lived,” praising his generosity, friendship, and unwavering willingness to assist others.
Limassol Mayor Yiannis Armeftis honored Mavropoulos as “a true Limassolian,” recognizing his significant role in the city’s business, tourism, and motorsport sectors. “He truly loved his city,” Armeftis noted, adding that Mavropoulos's involvement in motorsport had made him one of the most recognizable faces in the Cypriot rally scene.
Mavropoulos was also known for his passion for automobiles, having established the Cyprus Historic and Classical Car Museum. This endeavor was a testament to his immense love for cars and his dedication to charity and societal contributions.
In addition to his involvement in motorsport and the automotive community, Mavropoulos served on the boards of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and the Limassol Regional Tourism Board, further illustrating his commitment to the development of the region.
He is survived by his four daughters and his partner, Tsvetanka Iskileva, who are left to cherish his memory and the legacy he built throughout his life.
