**LUX_KILL to Transform Limassol Stage with Innovative Installation**
Limassol, Cyprus – A groundbreaking site-specific installation titled LUX_KILL is set to premiere at the Rialto Theatre from September 4 to 6, offering a unique exploration of the intersection between the physical body and digital systems. Created by visual artist and performer Suzana Phialas, this installation invites visitors to engage with a transformative experience beneath the theatre's stage.
Developed as part of the Theatre’s Associate Artist in Residence 2026 Programme, LUX_KILL challenges traditional notions of theatrical viewing by moving away from the classic red velvet seating and conventional performance formats. Instead, it immerses audiences in a raw and unexpected environment, where choreography, technology, and architecture converge.
The installation features three dismantled monitors that display an algorithmic representation of the body, which reacts dynamically to the presence of visitors. As attendees navigate through the space, their physical movements disrupt the local network, resulting in real-time visual distortions and frame-rate collapses. This interactive element positions the spectator not as a passive observer but as an active participant, influencing the artwork through their engagement.
The opening night of LUX_KILL is scheduled for September 4 at 7 PM, with free admission for all attendees aged 12 and above. On the opening evening, Phialas will be present at the theatre’s outdoor bar area to interact with visitors and discuss her work. Following the premiere, the installation will be open to the public from 6 PM to 10 PM on September 5 and 6.
Visitors can expect a sensory experience featuring flickering lighting and low-frequency audio within a darkened environment, designed to enhance the immersive quality of the installation. The project has been developed through a rigorous process of construction, testing, and experimentation, with Phialas collaborating closely with the Rialto Theatre's technical and production teams. The architecture and infrastructure of the understage have been utilized as integral components of the installation, further enriching the experience.
Phialas’ artistic practice delves into the relationship between movement, digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and the physical body.
