The 49-year-old reported to Paphos CID in February that he had received a call on his mobile phone which appeared to display the name of an online bank where he held an account. During the call, an unknown person told him that attempts were being made to gain access to his bank account and asked him to provide his personal banking credentials. After giving the caller his banking details, the 49-year-old later discovered that more than €6,800 had been taken from two of his bank accounts. As part of the investigation, police obtained an arrest warrant for the 28-year-old. He was arrested at Larnaca airport on Saturday as he was attempting to leave the Republic. The suspect appeared before Paphos District Court on Sunday, which remanded him in custody for five days. The Financial Crime Investigation Office of Paphos CID is continuing its investigation.
