**Man Sentenced to 14 Months for Assaulting Rep. Ilhan Omar with Vinegar**
A Minneapolis man has been sentenced to 14 months in prison for attacking U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar during a town hall meeting earlier this year. Anthony Kazmierczak, 36, was convicted for spraying the congresswoman with apple cider vinegar while she was addressing constituents on January 27.
During the incident, Kazmierczak approached the podium and used a syringe to spray Omar, reportedly shouting, “You’re splitting Minnesotans apart.” Security personnel quickly intervened and subdued him before he could cause further harm.
Omar, a Democratic representative known for her progressive stance and advocacy for Palestinian rights, later took to social media to express her resilience. “I’m ok. I’m a survivor so this small agitator isn’t going to intimidate me from doing my work. I don’t let bullies win,” she posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Kazmierczak was arrested shortly after the incident and faced federal charges for forcibly assaulting a federal official. He later reached a plea deal with prosecutors, during which he expressed remorse for his actions. Court documents revealed that Kazmierczak has a history of mental and emotional health issues, including a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease in 2022.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Joan Ericksen emphasized that Kazmierczak's actions were premeditated, indicating that the attack was not impulsive but rather planned.
