**Max Verstappen Rules Out 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2027, Eyes Other Endurance Races**
Max Verstappen, the reigning four-time Formula 1 world champion, has confirmed that he does not intend to participate in the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2027. However, he remains open to competing in other endurance races, specifically the 24-hour events at the Nurburgring and Spa-Francorchamps.
Verstappen's comments came during a press conference ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, where he clarified his racing plans for the upcoming years. The 24 Hours of Le Mans is scheduled for June 12 and 13 next year, coinciding with an off-weekend for Formula 1. This timing allows for potential participation, but Verstappen has opted to focus on other venues.
“I know there is no clash, but it still needs to work out in my schedule, and then I’ll do it. And Spa is an exciting option to do it,” Verstappen stated, indicating his interest in the endurance races at Nurburgring and Spa, which also fall on F1 off-weekends in 2027.
Verstappen's decision comes after he experienced a setback at this year’s Nurburgring 24 Hours, where he had to withdraw due to a driveshaft issue while leading the race. This incident has not deterred his interest in the Nurburgring, as he expressed a desire to return to the event in the future.
The Dutch driver is not alone in his interest in endurance racing. Other Formula 1 drivers, including Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso, a two-time Le Mans winner, and McLaren’s Lando Norris, have also shown enthusiasm for participating in endurance events. Norris mentioned that while he has not actively considered it yet, he would like to explore the possibility in the future.
“If there’s a chance that things can work out, maybe, but I don’t know if this is next year, the year after, three years, four years, I have no idea,” Norris said, reflecting a common sentiment among F1 drivers regarding the allure of endurance racing.
As the world of motorsport continues to evolve, the crossover between Formula 1 and endurance racing seems to be gaining traction, with more drivers contemplating participation in events like the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Nurburgring, and Spa-Francorchamps. For now, Verstappen remains focused on his commitments in Formula 1, with the Azerbaijan Grand Prix next on his agenda.
