**More Grip and 480 HP for New BMW M2 with M xDrive**
BMW M GmbH has unveiled the latest iteration of its compact high-performance model, the M2, marking a significant evolution in its design and capabilities. For the first time, the M2 will feature the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system, enhancing both grip and performance.
At the heart of the new M2 is a robust three-litre inline six-cylinder engine equipped with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology, producing an impressive 480 horsepower. This powerful engine is paired with an M Steptronic gearbox featuring Drivelogic, which allows for seamless gear shifts and optimal power delivery.
The introduction of the M xDrive system represents a notable advancement for the M2. Traditionally known for its rear-wheel-drive dynamics, the M2 now offers all-wheel drive, which is designed to enhance traction and stability. Under typical driving conditions, power is directed solely to the rear wheels, but the system can engage the front wheels when additional traction is necessary. This duality allows the M2 to maintain the classic handling characteristics that M models are celebrated for.
For enthusiasts who prefer a more traditional driving experience, the M Setup feature allows drivers to select a 2WD mode, deactivating the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and sending all torque exclusively to the rear wheels. This feature ensures that the M2 retains its sporty feel while also benefiting from the advantages of all-wheel drive.
The performance metrics of the new M2 are impressive. The vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds, which is 0.3 seconds quicker than the previous rear-wheel-drive version. Furthermore, it can reach 200 km/h in 12.8 seconds. The top speed is electronically capped at 250 km/h, which can be increased to 285 km/h with the optional M Driver’s Package.
In addition to its performance enhancements, the new M2 introduces M Ignite technology, a patented pre-chamber combustion process that draws from BMW's racing heritage. This innovative technology aims to reduce fuel consumption under heavy load while ensuring immediate responsiveness and high-rev performance. BMW plans to implement this technology across all M inline six-cylinder engines starting in mid-2026.
Standard features of the new M2 include striking 19-inch M alloy wheels at the front and 20-inch wheels at the rear, complemented by M Compound brakes with six-piston front calipers for enhanced stopping power. The vehicle also introduces a new color option, the eye-catching BMW Individual Borusan Blue, adding to the customization choices available to buyers.
Production of the BMW M2 with M xDrive is set to begin at the end of this month, with sales expected to follow shortly thereafter.
