**Nine Arrested in Nationwide Police Operations**
In a series of coordinated police operations conducted across Cyprus on Friday night, nine individuals were arrested for various offenses, highlighting ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and enforce the law. The arrests were part of a broader initiative aimed at addressing crime and ensuring compliance with traffic regulations.
The police reported that those apprehended were linked to a diverse array of offenses, which included attempted arson, illegal possession of narcotics, and the possession and use of a stolen motorcycle. Additionally, charges of drunk driving and illegal residence within the Republic were also among the reasons for the arrests.
During the operations, law enforcement officials stopped a total of 666 vehicles and conducted checks on 810 individuals. Traffic enforcement was a significant focus of the night’s activities, resulting in the issuance of 371 reports for various traffic violations. Furthermore, police are investigating an additional 28 cases related to traffic offenses.
Among the infractions recorded during the operation were 118 instances of speeding, alongside 27 cases of driving under the influence of alcohol. In a proactive measure to ensure road safety, three drivers tested positive in preliminary drug screening checks. The police conducted a total of 263 alcohol tests and eight drug tests throughout the night.
As part of the enforcement efforts, twenty vehicles were impounded, reflecting the ongoing investigations into the offenses committed. The police emphasized that these operations are not isolated incidents but part of a continuous strategy to maintain law and order across the nation.
Authorities have indicated that similar operations will be carried out daily, with targeted checks and patrols remaining a priority. The police aim to deter criminal activity and promote safe driving practices among the public.
