**Nine Drink-Drivers Caught in Overnight Police Checks**
In a recent overnight operation, police in Cyprus apprehended nine individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol, exceeding the legal limit. The checks, which took place as part of a broader traffic enforcement initiative, involved stopping 450 vehicles and conducting checks on 620 individuals.
The police reported a total of 308 traffic violations during the operation. Among these violations, 88 were related to speeding, highlighting ongoing concerns about road safety and compliance with traffic regulations. Additionally, officers impounded 10 vehicles as part of their enforcement actions.
The operation also revealed a concerning trend regarding drug use among drivers. Of the six roadside drug tests administered, five returned positive results, indicating a significant presence of illicit substances among some motorists.
In addition to the drink-driving charges, police arrested nine individuals for various offences. These included drug possession and residency violations, with some individuals found to be living in Cyprus without the necessary residence documentation.
