The defendant shot the victim, then aged 46, twice with a hunting weapon, seriously injuring her. She was hospitalised at the time. The couple have since divorced. The defendant admitted to shooting the victim and said he had called police himself, telling them he regretted his actions. He cooperated with police and helped identify scenes relevant to the investigation. The court heard that the defendant had paid compensation to the victim and her family totalling €130,000 to her, €10,000 to her lawyer and €21,000 to their minor daughter. He also transferred assets, including an apartment registered in his daughter’s name, and committed not to pursue rights over two further apartments. A sworn statement from the victim was also presented to the court, stating that she had been fully compensated and held no further claims.
