The programme targeted central and heavily used routes that had carried significant problems for years. Sections where the road surface was in poor condition, full of potholes and other damage affecting traffic flow and vehicles, have now been resurfaced. Work began on Petridia Avenue, from the Viofos junction towards Emba Avenue. That stretch is one of the most important points on the Paphos road network, serving the whole of western Paphos as well as communities to the north such as Tala, and carrying traffic towards the town centre and the exit to the Paphos-Limassol motorway. The route now has an entirely new road surface with markings. Similar works have been completed at other key points on the town’s network, among them the central avenue at Anavargos and the area around the hospital. Acting mayor of Paphos Angelos Onisiforou told Phileleftheros the works would continue and cover all the remaining problem points on the town’s road network. He said these were works of major importance for the image of the town, but above all for traffic to move safely and without damage, given that the condition of the roads being worked on was in many cases very poor. The Municipality is responding to many continuous complaints from residents about the unacceptable state of central routes, he said, acknowledging the importance of improving the situation in this area.
