**Police Arrest 19 in Nationwide Overnight Operation**
In a coordinated effort to enhance public safety and maintain order, police in Cyprus conducted a nationwide operation on Monday night, resulting in the arrest of 19 individuals and the issuance of 356 traffic fines. The operation, which took place across various urban areas, aimed to prevent serious crime and address unlawful activities.
According to a police statement released on Tuesday, the operation involved organized patrols at key locations, where officers focused on a range of offences. The arrests included charges related to illegal residence in the Republic of Cyprus, unlawful possession of drugs, resisting arrest, and failure to appear before court.
During the operation, police stopped a total of 686 vehicles and checked 854 individuals traveling in them. In addition to the arrests, officers inspected 44 premises, leading to four reports related to unlawful activities.
Traffic enforcement was a significant aspect of the operation, with officers issuing 356 fines for various traffic violations. Notably, 150 of these fines were related to speeding. In an effort to ensure road safety, police also conducted 90 alcohol tests, resulting in four reports, and performed five preliminary drug tests, one of which yielded a positive result. Furthermore, eight vehicles were impounded during the operation.
The police emphasized that such operations are part of an ongoing strategy to increase their presence in communities, conduct targeted checks, and take immediate action against crime. Authorities stated that they are committed to protecting the public and maintaining order through these enhanced enforcement measures.
As the operation concluded, police reiterated their intention to continue these initiatives daily, aiming to deter criminal activity and promote a safer environment for all residents and visitors in Cyprus.
